Pet Sitting At The Home

By Johnny Chan

One of the services which is on a rise presently is Home Pet Care. In order to enhance their finances, pet care workers are often willing to provide their services in the homes of the customers. Besides being beneficial to the customer it also helps that the pet is in its comfort zone, this makes taking care of it easier rather than subject the pet to a new unknown environment.

This has double benefits as it is easy for the customer to have a pet sitter at his place and the pet sitter finds it easy to handle the pet in his house as well. The pet usually faces trouble in adjusting to the new place and is not at ease. For a better pet sitting experience, it is best to call the pet sitter home so that the pet feels comfortable and is not stubborn in his ways. Animal behavior experts usually recommend this for pet sitting.

Pets may be knowingly or unknowingly subjected to stress regularly. But if the pet is nurtured well by their owners then they are often free from stress. Besides fulfilling the needs of the pets on a daily basis, engaging the pet in fun activities such as games and exercise ensure that they lead a holistic life.

You can distinguish easily between an experienced and a non-experienced pet sitter as an experienced pet sitter finds it easy to take care of the pets and keeps them happy. The important task is to keep the dog away from the stress to accomplish his main task successfully.

Some of the tasks that clients may expect the pet sitter to perform as a part of their services are:

1. Keeping a track of the vaccination to be administered to the pet and taking the pet to the vet after consulting the pet owner.

2. The customer may provide you with chew toys and treats for the pet. He will expect that you give the pet the products from time to time. You should always be willing to do it for the owner.

3. Keeping the pet away from areas that it is not allowed in. These might be places like the sofas, kitchen or a baby's bedroom.

4. Often customers may have some unusual requests like watering their plants. It is your discretion to accept or reject such requests.

5. In case you fail to take the pet for a walk on time and the pet ends up soiling the house, you must be prepared to clear the mess created. Prior to leaving you must request the customer to provide you with a few plastic bags. Also ask the customer where the cleaning equipment is kept and take permission to use the same in case needed.

6. Keeping the area clean. The area chalked as the place for the pet, or a cage as the case may be, must be kept clean at all times. You will be expected to do it every day if the customers leave on any trip and ask you to take care of the pet.

7. Walking as many pets as the customer owns. Since many customers rear more than one pet, and may not have sufficient number of leashes, it helps to carry your own kit that contains leashes. You may want to confirm the number of pets as well as availability of leashes with the customer before you arrive on the first day.

8. The most important job is to make the pet comfortable. This should be your priority. The owner's absence should not make him feel bad. A reasonable degree of observation of the pet's behavior can tell you about the pet's feelings. You should be able to judge his expression to know if he feels comfortable. You have to know how to differentiate between an angrily barking dog and an excitedly barking dog.
