3 Tips to Take Control of Your Day

You guys probably don't have a problem with this, but sometimes my day just gets away from me and before you know it's half over and I haven't accomplished much at all. It usually starts right away in the morning. One thing that's important to me and something I try to do every day is to start my day off with some quiet personal time first thing before anything else. If I don't do it first thing it doesn't happen and the days I do this seem to go a lot better than the days I don't so you might wonder why I'm not doing it every single day.

The reason is that sometime my days get off track right from the start.

I want to share with you 3 things I do to help minimize those days as much as possible. It doesn't mean I never get off track, I do, but when I do these 3 things it helps keep it manageable.

The first thing I started to do was to block off the time on my daily planner. I created a daily planner that helps me keep balanced in 7 areas of my life - financial, career, relationships, recreation, health and wellness, personal development, and community service. I use highlighters to block off the section of time I'm going to devote to each of those 7 areas.
Secondly, I stick to my schedule as much as possible. It's not that I necessarily want to do the things I have blocked time for but I do them anyway because they are good for me. When I get off track it's usually because I neglect the things that are good for me and do what I want to do instead. It's not that there's anything wrong doing what we want but life can't just be about that.

Third, I try to make sure I'm making time for a variety of things each day. I might not do something in all 7 areas that I talked about but if I can get a few in each day by the end of the week I should have had a well-balanced representation and will have accomplished what I wanted.

When I do these things I am living a purposeful life and taking control of my own destiny. My encouragement for you this week is that you will schedule time to live your life on purpose. Remember, you can achieve whatever you believe as long as you are willing to work for it!
